Safety guidelines
Meeting strangers is the whole point — here's how to do it wisely.
The golden rule: first meetings always happen in public places, during reasonable hours, with your own way home.
Before you go
- Tell a friend where you're going, with whom, and when you expect to be back.
- Check the meeting point — pick busy, public spots (cafés, parks, stations), never private homes for a first meet.
- Chat in the hangout chat first — a short exchange tells you a lot about the vibe.
While you're there
- Keep your phone charged and with you.
- Arrange your own transport — don't depend on someone you just met to get home.
- Watch your drink and your belongings, as you would anywhere.
- Trust your gut. If something feels off, leave. You owe nobody an explanation.
If something goes wrong
- In an emergency, call your local emergency number first.
- Report bad behavior to us via the contact form — include the hangout title and the person's name. We take reports seriously and remove people who make others unsafe.
Hosting a hangout?
- Pick an easy-to-find public meeting point and be on time.
- Say hi to everyone — you set the tone.
- If someone makes the group uncomfortable, you can ask them to leave and report them to us.
